How come you get depressed when you quit smoking?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Is it an actual side effect of nicotine leaving your body? I have quit smoking a million times and usually find myself lighting back up cause I can’t stand the misery.

But this time i’ve lasted over a month. I feel great. I’m not depressed anymore. Tho i’ve had heaps of bad shit happen to me while trying to quit, i’m pretty happy.

But my poor husband gave up smoking 4 days ago. And he’s miserable. Everything to him is negative. I hate to see him this way. I was that way too!

Is there anything to help him not be depressed. Or do you just have to get through those evil 2 weeks without smoking and it will go away. Is there a magic vitiman?

When you are a regular smoker your brain gets used to the nicotine. Once you quit it creates a chemical imbalance in your brain because you took away a chemical that has become part of the regular system. This most likely causes headaches, depression, and cravings. It is also why using gum and other methods that have some nicotine in them help people quit. It reduces the amount of nicotine slowly over time to help the brain functions learn to balance and operate without the nicotine. I would recommend just using one of those systems offered in drug stores or use your own such as going from say a pack a day to half a pack for a week then a quarter of a pack for the next week to 2 a day for a week to one a day for a week then one every other day for a week to none. This way the brain should balance out and he should be much healthier and happier! Good Luck!

Generic Nicotine Patches - Step 2 - 14 Patches

Nicotine Transdermal System – SunMark Generic Nicotine Patches This is a medium strength SunMark Brand, nicotine-containing patch. When you put it on, nicotine passes through your skin and into your body. It is very thin, comfortable, and easy to use because its special material controls how fast nicotine passes through the skin. Unlike the sudden jolts of nicotine delivered by cigarettes, the amount of nicotine you receive remains relatively smooth throughout the 24 hour period you wear the patch. This helps reduce the cravings you may have for nicotine. If you smoke more than 10 cigarettes per day, this is the exact patch you want. This generic nicotine patch is an excellent value when compared to Nicoderm and Nicotrol. The active ingredient in all patches are the same and this patch is much cheaper. We recommend the generic patches as the best value! This particular patch comes with a Compact Disc audio program to help you quite. The CD is a sort of self-help guide to keep you quitting. Strong Dose – Use one 21 mg patch/day Medium Dose – Use one 14 mg patch/day If you are under 18 years of age, ask a doctor before use Before using this product, read the enclosed user’s guide for complete directions and other information. Stop smoking completely when you begin using the patch If you smoke more than 10 cigarettes per day, do not use this patch. You will want to start with the stronger patches (21mg). Each Box contains 14 patches, a two week supply and an Audio CD. SunMark products are a line of generic pharmaceuticals that are sold through the Value Rite network of independently owned pharmacies of which ShopInPrivate.com is a proud participant. All SunMark products carry a 30 day money back guarantee.

How to quit smoking completely if i smoke only one or two Cigarettes a day?

Friday, February 26th, 2010

I have been smoking for 10 months and i used to smoke around 5 Cigarettes a day……Now my Fiance seriously wants me to quit smoking completely….I didn’t smoked for one whole week but then again i started smoking one or two cigarettes. Whenever i get up after sleep or sit where my friends are smoking. I feel like smoking. Please tell me how can i quit it completely….!!!!

I tried to stop smoking over and over again before finally finding a method to quit smoking that actually worked long term.
The best way to stop smoking is to completely change your location for one week. This can be timed to go along with a vacation or you can specifically plan to be out of town or away from home for a week in order to stop smoking. The change of scenery and routine completely changes your cravings, which are largely habit based. Without your same daily routine, your craving for cigarettes will be interrupted.

You must get through the first day. You will probably not feel the craving for cigarettes the first day because of the upheaval of your routine. To help this along, try to make your routine for the week as different from your normal day as possible. Get up at a completely different time, eat your meals at different times than you normally would and change your bedtime for he week.

Stay busy all day and the third day will soon be over.

After a week away, the nicotine will be out of your system and you will feel better than you have in a long time. Going home again can be stressful because you may fear that you will fall into your own patterns, In order to keep this from happening, make a new routine at home to keep you from craving a cigarette. This can mean changing which rooms you spend time in or taking a walk after dinner instead of lighting up. With a new routine, you won’t miss smoking as much. The air will smell sweeter and your food will taste better.

How long after you quit smoking should you feel the benefit?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I quit smoking two weeks ago (smoker for 17 yrs) and ever since I have woke up in the morning with a sore throat. I have also put on a lot of weight ( about a stone) despite eating healthy snacks (grapes, melon etc). I am starting to feel any health benefits I have gained from stopping have been undone by the extra weight I now carry. How long will it be before I actually feel any benefits from stopping ? Any ideas on how to boost my morale and feel good about quitting?

How to quit smoking cigarette/YOU CAN DO IT AS YOU SEE

To quit smoking is possible only by reducing the acidity of our body. what increases our body acidty :
1)Lack of Faith:If we make a careful research we shall see that people who have faith and perform their prayers in Islamic countries almost do not smoke at all .Praying throws the negative feelings from human brain, keeps you self-confident and prevents nervousness, stress causing the body acidity.
2)Refined foods and too much consumption of meat : increases the acidty of our body.By consuming natural foods and les meat your body will be balanced and will not need to smoke Herebelow are some refined foods:
White flour products(sandwiches, pizzas, cakes, ,etc):have almost no nutritional value and contain various chemical ingredients so as to have a better appearance,mouth-feel..Best way of consuming wheat is buying wholewheat bread, bulgur or making our own bread at home with fresh ground whole wheat flour.
White rice, salt, sugar: polished rice (without bran) also loses all the vitamins, minerals and causes acidity in our metabolism. right alternative is natural, branned rice.
White sugar: and its derivatives like chocolates,ice-creams,puddings,cakes,etc. are subject to many chemical applications till they become refined and granulated and increase acidty. We can obtain sugar from legumes ,cereals, fruits, vegetables and dairy products naturally. Ready made vinegars, tomato pastes, soups, puddings, pickles, tinned vegetables: also cause acidty and we must try to produce them at home as well with simple methods. Margarines, refined edible oils:are also unnatural because of the refining processes(bleaching, deodorising, degumming,etc.).Best alternative is cold pressed olive oil or eating oil seeds like sesame, coconut, groundnut or nuts like hazelnuts, peanuts, walnuts to satisfy our limited amount of daily oil need.Butter is not also good because of its saturated oil content. Avocado or peanut butter are the best alternatives of them. Tea,coffee and all kinds of alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks increases the acidty so we must prefer natural mineral water, herbal teas like linden, rosehip, etc. or fresh fruit juices .
Our protein intake can be obtained from meat, poultry, fish but the best way is to prefer lite dairy products or soybeans which is the only legume that can stand alone as a complete protein because too much consumption of animal products make our body tired because they contain no fiber and cause acidty.
After passing to natural nutrition we must quit smoking very slowly.Firstly you must determine a base amount.E.G.You must smoke everyday 15 cigarettes(or 20) for a week. After that you will decrease the number always one by one.E.G. next week everyday you will smoke 14 cigarettes.Quiting cigarette is also hard psychologically therefore you must be very patient and let your body adapt to the new amount both physically and psychologically and try to avoid yourself being effected from the side effects of quitting smoking .So each week by decreasing you can come to your last cigarette and then you begin to smoke 1 in 2 weeks then,1 cigarette in one month and then you can quit completely. You must not forget that after this period of 3-4 month quiting process you will gain 10 years added to your life .
Best Regards

I really want to quit smoking and I am on wellbutrin, and it helps, but how about replacing the habit? It is so hard! Has anyone been through this?

Give the wellbutrin some time. It helps so much. You don’t have to replace the habit as much as get new habits. I think it takes 2 months to develop new habits. So, when you get in the car, get in the habit of turning on the radio rather than lighting up, etc. After dinner, take a walk or do a puzzle – anything NEW.

How to quit smoking without gaining any weight?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I will not eat more than I usually do when I quit smoking. But I know my body will no longer spend calories to detoxify itself from the cigarettes – so I might gain weight. (right?)

How can I stop it?

I’d just suggest changing your eating habits to something that works for your body. Exchange cigarettes for, eating lower carbs.. or adding a daily walk to your routine. As long as you watch your calorie intake, and your carb intake, or add a walk to your day, you should remain the same size. Besides, you might not gain weight simply from stopping smoking.. everyone is diffferent and reacts differently. Good luck, see how you react, and if it’s negatively just change some habits around. It’s worth it!

I want to quit smoking, and I know it will bw hard cause my boyfriend smokes constantley. I need to stop smoking cause I have a daughter to think about and to think of all the money that can be put to better use! I need some advise.

Ask him to only smoke outside, and not anywhere around you and your daughter, especially in a vehicle. Hopefully seeing how much better you feel and the money you will save will inspire him to quit also!
