Tips to help someone stop smoking?

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

I have been smoking for five years now and am sick and tired of it. They are expensive, and since I am only 22 I think I need to quit while I am still young and have not had any major effects from it, like breathing problems.

Can anyone give some tips to help fight cravings that do not include the gums and patches? They are too expensive for me to buy and I would rather not have to buy them.

Anyone got any ideas? I plan to quit when my two packs of cigs run out.

I think you just have to be really ready and know it is going to be hard… but you will make it no matter how much you feel like you need or want a smoke, the craving will pass.

The first week is the worst. But as the days go on you think about smoking less and less.

I smoked for 7 years. I havent smoked in 3 months. No patches or gums or fancy tricks or cutting down, cold turkey quit. I have driven to the store to buy smokes walked to the counter and my will power walked me back out the door without cigarettes. There are still times when Im ready to give up and smoke. I still think I would enjoy it, I still like the smell. But I dont think about it that much anymore.

I know I can do it. If you know you can, then you are ready.

How to quit smoking when your young and in the nightlife ?

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

I’m 21 years old and been smoking for 5 years now my sense of smell is diminishing and I’m concern. I’m in the growing up phase which means partying, clubbing and drugs but realize that it will slowly become worst. So how can I quit smoking when it’s like a social part of my life?

You must know what are the advantages of quitting:

This will keep you motivated throughout. My friend was chain smoker and he quit. He use to say, just be mentally strong and you can do it. Here are some tips that helped him:

I quit smoking pot, but now im not so sure it was a good idea…anyone have experience?

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

I was a moderate marijuana smoker(about 4-5 days a week). I decided to quit and have now for 3 weeks. I am noticing that life is more real, colors are brighter, easier to pay attention etc…But it feels like the real problems that first led me to using this drug are also becoming clearer and stronger. It’s an effect I am not liking. I do go to therapy, and get advice from a professional, but I was wondering if anyone else has delt with this feeling and if they decided to quit or go back to smoking. I am starting to believe that marijuana may actually have some anti depressent attributes in severe cases now. Any advice would help, especially if you’ve delt with it. Thanks.

Stay clean. It`s still in your system. Few more weeks and you`ll be fine. Well done.

How do you stop smoking hash?

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

I am a habitual hash smoker. I have been smoking pot for the last 22 years. I have a life, and I work hard, but I just cant seem to knock it off. Im not a scruffy junkie or anything. But everytime I think I’ll stop, even for a week, I just end up frantic. My wife ends up telling me to go and get some and chill out a bit!
Im not anti drugs, and feel its anybodys right to do whatever they want, but has anyone got any good advice, maybe backed up with experience?
I havent been clean and straight for over 20 years now and I feel there is more to me than this.
I have lots of good memories, all of them with an under current of being a bit stoned and a bit dull because of it.
I have used pretty much all other drugs at some time or another, recreationally, but I always smoke pot every day.
So? Any good ideas? I dont want to have to hate it, so no exteme hypno, and all of my freinds smoke and I dont want to have to ditch them, so no big enviroment change therapies either.
Oh, and dont just judge me either. I am a good guy and I dont abuse or misuse other humans.
Just a bit fed up with it all, is all.
If I sound like someone who doesnt really want to quit its because I cant be bothered to quit…. which is kinda my point. Ive lost a lot of my ambition and will power. (lol) and it just seems easier to get stoned, although I dont even really get stoned anymore…..

Sorrt dude, just stop. I smoked pretty much every day for 15 years, my friends are pot heads too. I stayed in for a week, when I stopped to give me a chance to get used to it and then started my social life again without the pot.

There were no withdrawal symptoms, I don’t even particularly feel like I’m missing out on anything either.

Allen Carr’s EASY WAY to stop SMOKING?

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

My bf is 24 and has mild emphysema as he’s been smoking for over 10 years, smoking once /hr or so.

He keeps trying to stop and now he’s into smoking black & milds, …i think he’s doing this because he feels like he wants to quit but doesnt want to feel guilty when he does smoke, so he just gets one smoking-item instead of going through several, despite that he’s still smoking the same amount of tobacco, etc…

anyway, I bought him the "Easy way" audio book and I was thinking of giving it to him with some cigarettes.

I thought about doing this for 2 reasons.
1. the book encourages you to not feel deprived of having cigarettes and says you can even smoke while listening to the CD

2. though the book allows for cigarette smoking, I doubt he’ll actually give in and buy a pack bc he’ll feel guilty….so I want to help him get out of this mental rut associated with trying to quit so he can do so w/o feeling deprived….so, I’ll just provide them

IF YOU KNOW ABOUT THE "Easy Way" do you think that providing him with the cigarettes will be a good idea? or do you not think that it will have any effect?

I came out of an eating disorder not too long ago and learned that self-deprivation sometimes can make quitting a bad habit worse…..so I really want to help him out since he seems a bit conflicted with his situation.

ANY advice would be great! THANKS

I didnt/barely read your question, only the title (Yes I know..ignorant eh?)
Anyway, if you want to stop smoking.
Don’t go out and buy the most recent version of a book written by a complete dope..

Edit:
I glanced through your question, and to be honest matey.
Everyone has their own way of stopping.
That is no more true than in Drugs.
And obv cig’s are drugs so…
Let him find his own way.
The idea of an audio book is ok.
But if it doesnt work don’t stop trying.
It just takes something small to click inside a smokers ideology about smoking to get the right message.

How to stop smoking when all my friends do?

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

I want to stop smoking once and for all, but I love to do it. I use the excuse that its my only "vice" because I dont drink, do drugs. or overeat which i know is irrational. But its so hard when I’m faced with the temptation of it constantly because my best friends smoke. Does anyone have any tips on how to stay strong and not give in to the temptation when every one close to you is smoking and you’re trying to quit?

I can certainly understand how difficult it is to break the habit when all your friends are lighting up. But think of it this way. You’re too smart to let cigarettes ruin your health or be chained to a bad habit. You can feel far more superior to them because you are going to live longer and be healthier. Besides, the money you’re spending now on cigarettes — and they aren’t cheap—can be better spent on things you really enjoy, such as new clothes, hairdos, tickets to plays and sporting events, or even save up for a big purchase, like a vacation in the Bahamas or a nice new car. Give yourself small rewards for resisting temptation. When your friends see how much will power you have, they too, might consider quitting. Good luck!

How do I quit smoking?

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

I’m 16 and I’ve been smoking for about 2 years. I figure I better quit now before I get even more addicted to it. I recently went 3 weeks without smoking, but then I started again. Now I’ve been smoking even more then I was before. Any suggestions?

You might try to check zyban with the prolonged action. It helped my uncle to stop smoking. It is cheap and safe, but you’d better to consult with you doctor first. My uncle lost his insurance, so he purchased the generic version with the http://www.pharmacynextdoor.com

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

What is condersidered long term use (like how many years)? I have been smoking it since just before I turned 16 and i turn 19 next month. I’m trying to stop smoking it now, because I’m still young and have a great girlfriend which I plan on marrying someday. How many of you have given up pot and how did it go for you??

Thanks everyone

How do I get my parents to stop smoking?

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

My parents have been smoking for years. I have asthma and I have a 3 year old little brother. My parents try not to smoke around us and used to smoke out of our chimney in the winter. But now we just moved into a new house, and there is no fireplace so they just smoke in the house. They Can’t afford to use those quit smoking programs and buying cigarettes 3 times a day doesn’t help. They are truly amazing people, but smoking isn’t really making a good influence on others esapecially my brother and I. How can I get them to stop smoking?

When I was kid I used to throw my parents cigarettes down the toilet. They both ended up quitting. :D True story.

Has anyone read Allen Carr’s book "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking"?

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

I am on the last few chapters and am still nervous and scared to stop smoking. Wondering if anyone has read this book and successfully quit with his method and if you have any advice on how to turn the withdrawal pangs into a positive thought. I am not known to think positively very often.

No I haven’t read that, but have a suggestion that helped me… borrow library books on positive thinking and the sub conscious.
